#61. Out of the Loop

Almost to Black City!

I wonder what it's like!

Choro Notes: After completing the main storyline and getting the National Dex, your storage capacity increases. Handy if you were want to do something like "Catch 'em all"™

People do that all over the place though . . . even if I just like, am walking off in the distance!

Music: Black City

Choro Notes: Black City
Black City is a location unique to the Black version. The White version instead gets a location called White Forest. While White Forest has low level wild monsters like Pidgey and Ralts unique to White version, Black City has BATTLES and stores you can buy items in. The faster you reach Black City in game, the more buildings will initially be there. I can't show off any of this at this time but maybe in another very-near-future LP.

You! You have the same name as my turtle friend.

You scientists always use those items, huh?

Works for me!

I dun' think I get science . . .

Oh good, something not drab.

Choro Notes: If you use the Entralink, you can visit a nearby friend's White Forest (if they have the White Version.) You can invite people from their White Forest to move to your Black City, increasing the population.

A specialist?!

You're just like that last guy. . .

Choro Notes: Earth Power is a Ground-type version of Psychic. 90-base power Special move that can lower the target's Sp.Defense.

And then that happened!

Oh! Oh! There's a guy over there! He's doin' that whole research thing!

But . . . it's nice. I like it . . .

But you can smell the grass on a nice hot summer day . . .

. . .

But what about relaxing?

I dunno . . .

Choro Notes: Depending on the people you have in your city, you can buy different things. Some of them are useful, Evolution Stones, Poké Dolls, etc. Here's the thing, they're usually way expensive! One sells a Poké Ball for 10000. The others sell things like Nuggets and Pearls which . . . are only useful for selling. Hrmm . . .

. . . I'm kinda glad Bianca didn't actually make it here.

I can tell.

D:
It's you . . . . You're the pockets monster.

No deal! I'm outta this hellhole.
Choro Notes: Every ten trainers you beat, he'll reward you with 10,000 bucks. But money is such a non-issue at this point for Haley who cares.

. . . and people trust their children with you.

Whateva, I'm done with this city. You should too. JUST. SAYING.

I've seen what his city does to people. It ain't pretty.

Greed. Greed never changes.

See, this. This is what I'm talkin' about! It's untamed and wild! I mean. Except for the stairs. And the trellises.

Yeah! This! This is what I meant!

Me and you Ginger. Just a couple of girls pushin' some rocks.

Choro Notes: The Up-Grade is Porygon's hold/trade evolution item but . . . Porygon are only found in White Forest. . .

Pushin!

Oh was this yours? Too bad because I'm pushin' it! Pushin' machine!

I'm like a bulldozer, yeah. Bulldozer Haley. I'll doze all the bulls.

Fearow

Fearow is recognized by its long neck and elongated beak. It has a surprisingly long reach, so it must be treated with caution. They are conveniently shaped for catching prey in soil or water. It deftly moves its long and skinny beak to pluck prey. It's know to shoot itself suddenly high into the sky, then plummet down in one fell swoop to strike its prey. It has the stamina to fly all day on its broad wings.
Choro Notes: It's like a giant drill bird. Aww yeah
Zorak Notes: It's a giant hateful Anhinga. And that's pretty neat. Anhingas are cool birds. Not quite sure why a sparrow turns into one but hey.
HulkaMatt Notes: Beep boop big bird from gen 1 never used it. Looks killer rad.

Choro Notes: Venoshock is a special Poison-type move. It's power will double against a poisoned target to 130 base power. However, the move itself cannot poison. It's handy on a monster with Poison Point like Scolipede, who is one of only a couple monsters that learns it naturally.

Ah, see. You get it. You're a wild little guy, huh?

Well not anymore!

Marowak

Marowak is the evolved form of a Cubone that has overcome its sadness at the loss of its mother and grown tough. This Pokémon's tempered and hardened spirit is not easily broken. From its birth, this savage Pokémon constantly holds bones. It is skilled in using them as weapons. It collects bones from an unknown place. Some whisper that a Marowak graveyard exists somewhere in the world. It has been seen pounding boulders with the bone it carries in order to tap out messages to others.
Choro Notes: A cool dude. Real bone cold.
Zorak Notes: Marowak is a really cool Pokemon. His first appearance in Generation I was quite bone-chilling when you're a kid. I mean, it's a mysterious formless ghost with a bone to pick with you, and you can't even catch the thing. It wasn't a ghost-type which was kind of weird, but I guess it'd be kind of bone-headed for them to have set aside game memory just to code a one-off Marowak for a single encounter, rather than just make it one you can't catch.
HulkaMatt Notes: Hey did you guys know in the lavender town tower you don't even need to get the fuckin silph co shit or w/e lol you just use a pokédoll SEQUENCE BREAK ( I love marowak )

How come I never see one of you without a baby? They grow up at some point, don't they?

Kangaskhan

If you come across a young Kangaskhan playing by itself, you must never disturb it or attempt to catch it. The baby Pokémon's parent is sure to be in the area, and it will become violently enraged at you. To protect its young, it will never give up during battle, no matter how badly wounded it is. It raises its offspring in its belly pouch. It lets the baby out to play only when it feels safe. To avoid crushing the baby it carries in its pouch, it always sleeps standing up.
Choro Notes: STILL NOT RELATED TO CUBONE.
Zorak Notes: Hey, how ya doin' Maiasaurus Kangaroo. Mono-gendered Pokemon are weird to me as a scientist but whatever.
HulkaMatt Notes: Oh man this pokémon was really rad when it was in gen 1 and I went to that one area in the safari zone where there's like four specks of grass in a corner and I'd try to catch it and then I'd catch it and then never use it ever again because ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? It doesn't even evolve wtf (it looks nice??)

Ah, I know about you guys. There's a sport where you ride 'em. A cool sport.

Choro Notes: You can also, rarely, find wild Gliscor and Tyranitar in this area in the rustling grass.

Pupitar

Even sealed in its shell, it can move freely. Hard and fast, it has outstanding destructive power. Pupitar creates a gas inside its body that it compresses and forcefully ejects to propel itself like a jet. The body is very durable—it avoids damage even if it hits solid steel.
Choro Notes: A detail I like about Pupitar, is the eyeholes and holes above its eyes are still present on Tyranitar—they're the wholes on its chest! You can also see the head spikes and tail!
Zorak Notes: I LOVE YOU GODZILLA.
HulkaMatt Notes: It's a fuckin' pinecone

Alright!

It's . . . a stomach? I guess that's cool? Maybe?

You like the balls then, huh?

I dunno, you're competing with a charming little gentleman here.

Ok, fine. Whatever.

Ah . . nope. Haven't seen one, sorry.

Choro Notes: This thing is the building you use to transfer monsters from Gen4 to Gen5. It requires you to have a second DS to wirelessly send them to Black. I could show it off but that will be for another time in another game.

I've never done one of those, so yes! I will try anything once!

Choro Notes: Triple Battles are semi-unique to White. (In the White version you do a Rotation battle here.) It's pretty simple. 3 on 3 match with attacks having a certain range.

Choro Notes: Notice: Ginger and the Alomomola are unaffected. Earthquake only affects those immediately near the user.

Well, I'm sure glad that the fish helped you aim there, Klinklang.

When in doubt, Earthquake!

Choro Notes: Synchronoise only damages enemies that are adjacent to the user and also share a type with it. This makes it pretty bad in most cases: only monsters that are some combination of Psychic, Normal and Flying learn it naturally. Psyduck and Eevee get it via breeding, however. Kecleon can also learn it which brings up interactions with Color Change, but overall . . . meh.

Good work team!

Ha ha, we did kinda dominate that, huh?

Choro Notes: This battle can be repeated: the trigger for getting her to go again is to defeat Ace Trainer Eileen (or Ace Trainer Lou in White) in Opelucid's Battle House.

Ah! I think this is my last bridge!

Music: Marvelous Bridge

Choro Notes: Just like on Driftveil's bridge, shadows appear which can have either these Wing items, or . . .

Ah! So this is where you've been hiding!

Swanna

Despite their elegant appearance, they can flap their wings strongly and fly for thousands of miles. It administers sharp, powerful pecks with its bill. It whips its long neck to deliver forceful repeated strikes. Swanna start to dance at dusk. The one dancing in the middle is the leader of the flock.
Choro Notes: It's like a graceful Pelipper, seething with rage beneath its calm exterior.
Zorak Notes: Did you know that in Britain, all wild mute swans belong to the Royal Crown? I suppose the Queen just chows down on one now and then.
HulkaMatt Notes: Sassy fat swan ain't got NO TIME for yo SHIT

Choro Notes: For those keeping score, that's the next to last monster Haley needed to find for non-legendaries.

Choro Notes: Occasionally something can happen here. You'll see it later.

Oh, the lady that smells like patrats.

So . . . did you all just break down or . . .

I've had a bad experience with Patrats before so . . .

Choro Notes: The Patrat show is a simple "find the patrat as they dance" game. The prize is always a big mushroom, you can do it each day until you win. Woo.

SWEET HELL.

Came to finish the job, huh?

Good.

What th—

loyal servants of Ghetsis."

Oh thank goodness.

Choro Notes: The three orbs were given to you mainly for you to have a way to have them in Gen5. You can't transfer items from Gen4 over and you kind of need the Griseous one in particular to access an alternate form.
The Adamant Orb is the hold item of Dialga: It boosts its Steel and Dragon-type moves.
The Lustrous Orb is the hold item of Palkia: It boosts its Water and Dragon-type moves.
The Griseous Orb is the hold item of Giratina: It boosts its Ghost and Dragon-type moves and also transforms it into its Origin Form.

for an unbelievable 500."

Magikarp, what is that, some sorta fish? I dunno . . . 500 is a little steep for me . . .

Choro Notes: Ironically, you can't get Magikarp or Gyarados from anywhere else in Gen5. You either need to buy from him or import from Gen4!

Oh, I recognize this!

I guess that was the full loop, huh?
